JAZZPAR Artists - Jesper Lundgaard
   Jesper Lundgaard (DK) - bass player, b. June 12, 1954. JAZZPAR Artist 1990, 1992, 1993 and 1995.

Tommy Flanagan was presented during JAZZPAR 1993 in his own domain, i.e. as the head of his distinguished trio, for this occasion a special version consisting of the master himself on piano, the celebrated bassist Jesper Lundgaard, and on drums Lewis Nash who had been receiving raving notices.
Tommy Flanagan has through the years been the leader of many exemplary trios. Especially his prolonged but now discontinued cooperation with bassist George Mraz has attracted attention. Discussing The JAZZPAR Tour, Flanagan explicitly asked for Jesper Lundgaard. Since 1978 this sought after Danish bass virtuoso has worked with numerous international stars including Tommy Flanagan - not to mention practically every Danish combination of merit. Lundgaard is held in high esteem because of his imaginativeness, versatility, and virtuosity as well as rhythmic solidity - and solidarity with the soloists he is backing.
