JAZZPAR Artists - Kurt Larsen |
Kurt Larsen (DK), b. 1941, was part of Erling Kroners "Dream Quintet" with Quique Sinesi (g) and featuring Dino Saluzzi (band) at the JAZZPAR 1998 Project. Larsen has played the accordion for more than 40 years, but first made an impression on the Danish jazz-scene as a Lars Gullin-inspired baritonesax-player in the early 70s. Recent years Larsen has concentrated his efforts on the accordion and is much in demand because of his huge stylistic span from French musette, Balkan music, Argentine tango to jazz. His quartet has recorded CDs presenting a wide variety of music including originals. Some of his compositions are published in a Kurt Larsen Songbook. Larsen is a mature musician whose refined harmonization and melodic approach sparkle when he comps or improvises as the quintet's third "horn". |
